JOLIET, IL – The Joliet Police Department today issued a public notice warning of an unauthorized gathering planned at the historic Old Joliet Prison. This announcement comes in the wake of hundreds congregating at the location Friday evening for an early celebration of Mexican Independence Day.

Cars and trucks bearing Mexican flags converged on the prison grounds for the festivity. However, officials have now declared the prison and its associated parking areas off-limits for today. The decision to close the prison site was also influenced by an ongoing city-wide event.

Authorities emphasize that the Old Joliet Prison, including its parking facilities, remains private property. Any attempt to park or enter the premises today could result in a citation, towing of vehicles, and potential trespassing charges.

The police department urges the public to respect the closure and avoid any unauthorized activities in the area.
