Lollapalooza, Taste of Chicago canceled, Illinois surpasses 6,000 COVID-19 deaths

The City of Chicago announced Tuesday it is canceling all of its events now through Labor Day.    Events canceled include Lollapalooza, the Taste of Chicago, the Air and Water Show, and the Chicago Jazz Festival.

Lollapaloosa normally draws over 100,000 fans across it’s four days in Grant Park.

The announcement comes on the heels of IDPH officials announcing on Tuesday the state had passed 6,000 deaths since the coronavirus pandemic began.  State officials announced 95 new deaths on Tuesday, a total that now stands at 6,018.

A total of 797 new coronavirus cases were reported in Illinois on Tuesday.  State officials had to close testing sites today due to high winds across the area. Statewide, there have now been 129,212 cases of COVID-19.  The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from June 2 –June 8 is 4%.
