Ennis, MT – Damaging wind gusts could begin impacting drivers and power lines in the Madison River Valley as early as 3 a.m. Wednesday, with peak gusts reaching 65 mph by the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, a High Wind Warning remains in effect for the region from 3 a.m. through 6 p.m. Wednesday. Southerly winds will sustain between 35 and 45 mph, with stronger gusts capable of knocking down tree limbs and triggering scattered power outages across Madison County.
Communities including Ennis, Norris, McAllister, Cameron, and Jeffers sit directly in the path of the strongest winds. Open stretches along MT-287 and rural valley roads may see sudden crosswinds, creating hazardous conditions for semitrucks, RVs, and other high-profile vehicles. Loose debris could also become airborne, increasing the risk of property damage.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and equipment before winds intensify overnight. Charging electronic devices ahead of potential outages is also advised.
Conditions are expected to gradually ease after 6 p.m. Wednesday, but additional advisories could follow if wind patterns persist into midweek.
