Homewood, IL – Metra’s Homewood Station, a key commuter hub, is set to partially reopen on Monday, May 20. The reopening comes after the installation of a new stairway linking the pedestrian tunnel to the boarding platform. However, the station will remain inaccessible to ADA customers until June 30, due to ongoing elevator construction. Until the elevator is operational, passengers requiring ADA access are advised to use the nearby Calumet or Flossmoor stations.
According to Metra officials, this renovation is part of a $20.7 million upgrade, which started in 2023 and will continue through 2025. The improvements include not only the stairway and elevator but also a new ADA-accessible east headhouse, upgrades to the platform, and new drainage and lighting systems. Additionally, the project features a new Pace bus facility to enhance commuter connectivity. This effort is part of Metra’s broader initiative to refurbish and make accessible 13 stations along the Metra Electric Line, enhancing commuter services through Chicago’s South Side and southern suburbs.
