Florida – Waves roll in under a bright morning sky, but beneath the surface, a dangerous threat is building along Miami’s beaches. Strong rip currents are already creating life-threatening conditions for swimmers, especially along exposed areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a high rip current risk remains in effect through Thursday evening for coastal Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Even experienced swimmers can be pulled away from shore quickly in these conditions.
The risk is elevated due to steady onshore winds and a persistent coastal swell. Beaches from Miami Beach to Fort Lauderdale are seeing the greatest impact. Lifeguards may post red flags, and some areas could restrict water access if conditions worsen.
If you’re heading to the beach today, take precautions. Swim only near lifeguards, and never enter the water alone. If caught in a rip current, don’t fight it. Float, stay calm, and swim parallel to shore until free.
Away from the beach, conditions remain warm and breezy. Highs reach 77°F today with east winds between 16 and 18 mph, gusting higher at times. Those winds are contributing to the rough surf and increasing the rip current threat.
A few isolated showers may develop Thursday and Friday, with rain chances around 20% to 30%. By the weekend, temperatures climb toward 80° to 82°F with a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms.
