Michigan Mourns Tragic End for 82-Year-Old Avid Flyer: Plane Found in Woods

DOWAGIAC — The local aviation community is in mourning after 82-year-old Richard Martin, who regularly took to the skies on Sunday mornings, was found deceased amid the wreckage of his plane. Martin was reported missing last Sunday, and his body and the plane, a silver Sonex with Tail Number N569SX, were located in a wooded area two miles north of Dowagiac.

According to the Dowagiac Police’s statement, Michigan State Police’s Aviation Unit directed the First Responders to the crash site. Numerous agencies aided in the search and rescue operation, highlighting the collective effort of the community.
