MOMENCE – A Momence Police Department Officer has died following a crash early Thursday morning.

According to the Coroner’s Office, early this morning Momence Officer Troy Jacobson, of Kankakee, called his wife to say he wasn’t feeling well. Jacobson was headed back to the Police Department when his car left the roadway and crashed near River and Dixie Highway.

Jacobson was transported to AMITA St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee where he was pronounced dead around 1:30 am.

“Preliminary investigation reveals Officer Jacobson was possibly having a medical emergency at the time of the crash,” Momence Chief of Police Brian Brucato said in a press release Thursday afternoon. “Officer Jacobson is survived by his wife and three young children.”

Jacobson was assigned a full-time position at the Momence Police Department this past August. Coroner’s Office reports some 20-25 local officers escorted Jacobson’s body from the Hospital to the Morgue.

The accident is now being investigated by both the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Police and Illinois State Police.
