New York, NY – Temperatures will سقوط into the 20s across the Tri-State area overnight, creating immediate risks for crops, outdoor plumbing, and early Tuesday travel before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. Tuesday for all of southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York, including New York City and Long Island. Sub-freezing temperatures in the mid-20s to lower 30s are expected across the region.

Cities including Stamford, New Haven, White Plains, Newark, Paterson, and all five boroughs of New York City will see several hours below freezing. Long Island communities from Suffolk County to Nassau County will also drop into the upper 20s, with colder pockets inland. Major roadways including I-95, I-287, the Garden State Parkway, and Long Island Expressway could see patchy frost on bridges and overpasses during the early morning commute.

The biggest concern remains agricultural damage. Early spring plantings, orchards, and backyard gardens face a high risk of freeze damage after recent mild weather accelerated growth. Unprotected outdoor plumbing in suburban and rural areas could also be vulnerable.

Residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants, disconnect hoses, and allow faucets to drip overnight. Travel early Tuesday should be done cautiously, especially before 8 a.m. when temperatures are lowest.

Conditions will improve after 9 a.m. Tuesday as temperatures rise above freezing, but additional cold alerts remain possible if overnight lows stay below seasonal norms.
