BOLINGBROOK, IL – A routine response to a theft complaint took a dangerous turn as an officer was shot by an alleged offender in Bolingbrook Sunday night.
According to police the incident unfolaround 6:14 pm, on the 100 Block of S. Bolingbrook Dr., and has left the community on edge. Local authorities had initially responded to a report of theft at a local business, but the alleged perpetrator managed to evade capture. Hours later, at approximately 7:48 pm, a Bolingbrook Police Officer managed to locate the suspect, only to be met with gunfire upon making contact. The officer was struck by the shots fired, and immediate medical attention was administered. The injured officer is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed at this time, is believed to be barricaded within a residence, prompting a tense standoff with law enforcement. The situation has escalated to the point where tactical operations and investigation efforts are being assisted by the Illinois State Police.
Bolingbrook residents are advised to remain vigilant and cooperative as the authorities work to safely resolve the ongoing situation.
