KANKAKEE – Seven area residents have lost their battles with COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The update came from area health departments late Tuesday night as Kankakee County Health Department officials reported an additional four deaths in the county, while Iroquois County reported three additional deaths.
The announcement came as both counties surpassed historic marks in the pandemic this week.
Tuesday afternoon, Kankakee saw its total COVID cases climb over the 10,000 mark since March, while Iroquois county surpassed 2,000 cases in the pandemic Monday. Kankakee now has seen 10,025 cases in the pandemic, while Iroquois has seen 2,033 cases.
Since December 1st, 1,113 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Kankakee, including 16 deaths. Active cases in the county have grown by 422 cases, increasing from 4,745 on December 1st to 5,167 Tuesday.
Since the pandemic began, a total of 182 lives have been in Kankakee and Iroquois counties combined.
