Quad Cities, IA/IL – Tonight, the Quad Cities area is set to experience gusty winds as a line of storms moves through the region, the US National Weather Service reports.

Expected wind gusts of 35-45 mph could pose challenges, although severe winds are not predicted. Residents should be cautious of lightning and strong winds during these conditions.

Simultaneously, an exciting natural display may light up the night sky. The Space Weather Prediction Center has announced a G4 (Severe) Geomagnetic Watch for the evening of May 11, 2024. This alert follows the anticipated arrival of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) that could enable the visibility of the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.

The best time to witness this phenomenon is projected to be between midnight and 4 AM, after the storm clouds disperse, offering a potentially spectacular view for those in clearer areas.
