Railroad crossing damage causes road closure in Watseka, IDOT responds

WATSEKA, Ill. — The Watseka Police Department has issued a public service announcement on Tuesday, March 9, 2023, informing the public of the closure of the westbound lane on Walnut St. due to damage at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing.

According to the news release, the closure is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is currently on the scene and directing traffic.

Drivers in the area are advised to expect delays and to consider taking an alternate route if possible. The Watseka Police Department also urged drivers to exercise caution and follow all traffic rules and regulations while navigating through the area.

The cause of the damage at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing has not been disclosed at this time.
