Rensselaer, IN – The City of Rensselaer issued a scam alert today, warning residents of fraudulent phone calls claiming to be from the Rensselaer Utility Office.

These callers, falsely stating that residents have a credit on their utility accounts, are soliciting bank information to “process a refund.” Authorities have cautioned that the City does not process refunds directly to bank accounts but rather mails checks to the appropriate addresses if refunds are due.

The Rensselaer Police Department is investigating these calls and encourages anyone with information or concerns to reach out to the City’s Utility Office or report suspicious activities to the police.
