Richland County, ND Crash: Sheldon Man Killed in Rollover Sunday

Barney, ND – A Sheldon man has died following a single-vehicle rollover accident in Richland County late Sunday night, April 19, 2026.

According to the North Dakota State Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Richland County Road 3, roughly 2.5 miles north of Barney. A 1974 Chevrolet pickup was traveling southbound when it reportedly left the roadway, entered the west ditch, and overturned.

The driver, a 29-year-old male from Sheldon, North Dakota, was partially ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. Authorities confirmed that despite wearing a seat belt, the driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the accident.

The emergency response was a multi-agency effort, including the North Dakota State Patrol, Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Barney Fire Department, and Wyndmere Fire Department. Medical assistance was provided by Wyndmere Ambulance and CHI Ambulance.

While road conditions were reported as good and weather conditions were clear at the time of the incident, the exact cause of why the vehicle left the road remains unclear. The crash remains under active investigation by the North Dakota State Patrol.
