Sledgehammer Bandit Strikes: Illinois Jewelry Store Loses Thousands in Heist

OAK PARK, IL – A brazen thief wielding a sledgehammer shattered the quiet of Oak Park late Monday night.

According to Oak Park Police reports it happened at 11:25 p.m. at Oak Park Jewelers at 101 S. Marion when the store fell victim to a burglary after the perpetrator smashed their entrance and three display cases. 

An eyewitness reported seeing an unknown male offender dashing south on Marion shortly after hearing a resounding crash. Surveillance footage confirmed that he swiftly stowed an assortment of jewelry into a satchel. The estimated damage and loss is valued at $20,000. Authorities are urging residents to come forward with any information.
