GURNEE – Multiple people were injured after a person drove up and starred shooting at a person in the Six Flags Great America parking lot Sunday night.
According to Gurnee Police, it happened just before 8 p.m. Sunday when a white sedan pulled into the parking lot and drove to the front entrance. That’s when, police say, suspects for out of the car and began shooting at a person in the parking lot.
Two teenage victims in the attack were transported to a local hospital, a 17-year-old from Aurora along with a 19-year-old Wisconsin woman. Another person injured in the attack declined to be transported to the hospital.
Six Flags defended its security measures Sunday night, saying in a statement:
“Layers of preventative measures both inside and outside the park are in place for the protection of guests and team members. We continue to review and enhance our protocol on a daily basis to ensure we are providing the highest level of safety. Cameras placed in the parking lot and inside the park, uniformed and plain clothes patrols throughout the property, and advanced screening technology allow us to react quickly and provide important information. The park security team is joined by the Gurnee Police Department, who operates a substation at the park.”
