Tennessee – Bright sun and warming air are setting the stage for a quick weather shift, with storm chances building in just a couple of days.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, dry and sunny conditions dominate through today and Thursday, with highs reaching 83°F today and 84°F Thursday. That calm stretch allows roads, sidewalks, and soil to dry out—at least for now.
By Friday afternoon, conditions begin to change. A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 1 p.m., followed by a much wetter period Friday night when rain chances jump to 90%. Downpours could reduce visibility on I-40, I-65, and I-24, especially during evening travel. Plan extra time and keep headlights on in heavy rain.
Saturday keeps the unsettled pattern going, with a 50% chance of storms after 1 p.m. Some storms may bring brief heavy rain and gusty winds, though widespread severe weather is not expected at this time. Still, lightning and localized ponding on roads remain concerns.
By Sunday, rain chances ease slightly to 20%, but storms can still pop up during the afternoon. That pattern continues into Monday, with another 50% chance of showers and storms returning.
Meteorologists are tracking a broader system pushing east, which could enhance storm coverage across the region late week into the weekend. While tornado risk remains low right now, warmer and more humid air could support a few stronger storms.
