Eureka, CA – Snow and strong winds are creating hazardous travel conditions across northeastern Trinity County, with impacts already underway and continuing through Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Tuesday for elevations above 4,500 feet. Snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph across exposed terrain.
Higher elevations near the Trinity Alps will see the greatest impacts, where roads will become slick and visibility may drop during heavier bursts of snow. Travel during the Monday evening and early Tuesday morning commute will be especially difficult, particularly on winding mountain routes and untreated surfaces.
Gusty winds may bring down tree branches, creating additional hazards on roadways and the potential for isolated power outages in remote areas.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check road conditions by calling 511 before traveling. Carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight, if heading into higher terrain.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 11 a.m. Tuesday, but lingering slick spots and debris may continue to impact travel into the afternoon.
