Urbana, IL – The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign issued a Campus Safety Notice on Tuesday regarding a reported sexual assault that occurred at a fraternity house late last week.
According to the notice, the University Police were informed of the incident that took place Friday around 1 a.m. The victim reportedly met the offender, who is not known to them, earlier that night. In accordance with federal law and campus policy, specific details about the location and time are withheld to protect the survivor’s identity and prevent further harm.
The university is actively providing resources to those involved and reinforcing its commitment to campus safety and security. They emphasize the collective responsibility of the community to support survivors and prevent sexual assault. The notice also includes information on intervention strategies, the importance of consent in sexual acts, and how to seek assistance in uncomfortable or unsafe situations.
University officials encourage reporting of sexual violence and misconduct, offering several reporting options via the university, community organizations, and local law enforcement. They also highlighted the availability of the Student Assistance Center and the Emergency Dean Program for additional support.
