Lake County, IL – A severe traffic collision in Volo resulted in critical injuries for one of the drivers involved.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reports that the crash occurred Sunday evening at the intersection of Route 12 and Russell Avenue. A Ford Mustang, driven by a 24-year-old man from Fox Lake, was going northbound in the southbound lanes when it struck a Mitsubishi Outlander, operated by a 36-year-old Deerfield woman, in a head-on collision.
The Deerfield woman sustained critical injuries, including a fractured spine and bleeding in the brain. The Ford driver and his 23-year-old front-seat passenger also received serious injuries, with the passenger experiencing loss of leg sensation.
All victims were transported to area hospitals. An open alcohol container found in the Ford suggests impairment may have played a role in the crash. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is actively investigating the incident.
