Wilmington, IL – A devastating accident in Kankakee County claimed the lives of a grandmother and her granddaughter from Wilmington, Illinois.
According to the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office late Thursday night, the incident occurred at 12:48 pm at the intersection of 12000 North Road and Illinois Route 50, just north of Manteno. The Kankakee County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police Troop 5 reported that a 2017 Honda Civic, driven by 53-year-old Lisa M Dome, reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling eastbound on 12000 North Road. The car was subsequently hit by a southbound 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Emergency responders extricated a passenger from Dome’s vehicle, who was rushed to the Emergency Department at Riverside Medical Center but later passed away. The driver of the Ford F-150 sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
The victims, later identified as Lisa M Dome was pronounced dead at the scene, while her granddaughter, 9-year-old Weylen R Cadorette, also of Wilmington, Illinois, died shortly after at the hospital.
An autopsy for Dome is scheduled for Friday. Authorities continue to investigate the tragic event that has deeply affected the Wilmington community.
