Wilmington, IL – Local authorities have announced closure of New River Road in the westbound direction from Interstate 55 to Kelly Road due to significant flooding.

The Wilmington Police Department, in coordination with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), is taking measures to secure the area.

As of January 16, 2024, at 3:30 pm, barricades are being erected to prevent vehicle passage. Officials strongly advise against attempting to drive through flooded sections of the road. However, access to Interstate 55 remains unaffected, with both northbound and southbound lanes open to traffic. Eastbound travel on New River Road from the I-55 exit is also still possible.

The police promise to provide updates on any further road closures as the situation evolves.
