St. Charles, IL – In a court development that draws attention to the issue of misconduct within educational and religious institutions, Joseph J. Charron, a 68-year-old Wisconsin resident and former monk and teacher at Marmion Academy, has entered a guilty plea for aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.
Announced by Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser, the plea agreement includes 30 months’ probation and 180 days of imprisonment. This case originated from Charron’s inappropriate behavior with a student aged between 15 and 17 years during their time at the academy. Conditions of Charron’s probation mandate a sex offender evaluation, no contact with the victim, supervised interactions with minors under 18, and adherence to a Civil No Contact Order.
Charron, now living in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, with court approval, has paid $35,257.75 in restitution, with additional fines due. He may move to another state with the Interstate Compact Commission’s approval and has been credited for 695 days of home confinement since May 2022. The courage of the victim and the diligence of law enforcement in pursuing justice are highlighted through this case.
