PARK FOREST – A woman is recovering from superficial wounds from project glass after a suspect fired a gunshot into her driver’s side window.

According to Park Forest Police, it happened early Friday morning just before 6 am when the 49-year-old Park Forest resident was watching two men walking in the 100 block of Hemlock Street pulling on car door handles. The woman began to call the police when a suspect suddenly appeared beside her door. The woman reportedly tried to pull away before a suspect fired a single round at the vehicle, striking the driver’s side window of the car, resulting in the glass shattering.

Investigators are reviewing evidence in the case, including area surveillance video.

“Gun violence targeting uninvolved witnesses to criminal activity is a rare occurrence and deeply disturbing,” Chief Christopher Mannion said in a statement posted to social media Friday. “Our investigations Division is employing all available resources to identify and arrest those involved in this incident.
