Miami, FL – Scattered thunderstorms are already moving across South Florida this morning and will intensify through the afternoon, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and potential street flooding that could disrupt travel through the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a cold front is pushing through the region today, producing multiple rounds of showers and storms. Early activity is focused near Lake Okeechobee, with storms spreading across the east coast metro areas—including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach—by this afternoon.

Rainfall rates may lead to localized urban flooding, especially along major corridors like I-95, I-75, and U.S. 1. Wind gusts could reach 30 to 35 mph, and isolated small hail is possible in stronger cells. Visibility may drop quickly during downpours, creating hazardous driving conditions.

Behind the front tonight, conditions shift from storms to coastal hazards. A high risk of rip currents is expected along Atlantic beaches, with surf building to 6 to 8 feet and hazardous conditions for swimmers. Small craft advisories are also in effect, with rough seas and gusty winds impacting both Atlantic and Gulf waters.

Residents should avoid flooded roads, delay beach plans, and monitor alerts through this evening. Storm activity will taper overnight, but dangerous marine conditions will continue into Tuesday.
