Tampa, FL – Critical fire weather conditions will peak across parts of west-central Florida this afternoon, with dry air and gusty winds creating an immediate risk for fast-spreading wildfires, especially in Levy County.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from 12 PM to 8 PM Monday. Winds will gust between 15 and 20 mph while relative humidity drops to 25–35%, drying out vegetation and increasing the chance that any spark could ignite and spread quickly.

The highest concern is along the Nature Coast, including areas near U.S. 19 and State Road 24, where open land and dry fuels are most vulnerable. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and even small ignition sources—such as cigarettes or equipment—could lead to rapidly growing fires.

Conditions remain elevated into Tuesday, when a Fire Weather Watch expands across west-central and southwest Florida during the afternoon hours. Similar wind speeds and dry air will persist, extending the wildfire risk across a broader region including Tampa, Brooksville, and Sarasota.

Residents should avoid open flames, keep vehicles off dry grass, and secure any equipment that could produce sparks. Fire danger will ease after sunset each day, but additional alerts may be issued as dry conditions continue through Tuesday.
