Lubbock, TX – Showers and thunderstorms are already increasing across the Caprock this morning, with wet roads and reduced visibility expected to impact travel through the evening commute and into early Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, rain and storms will expand in coverage by mid-morning Monday, moving from southeast to northwest across cities including Lubbock, Plainview, Levelland, Brownfield, and Childress. The most widespread activity is expected between noon and late evening, when roads such as I-27, U.S. 84, and U.S. 62 could become slick.

Rain chances range from 40% to 70% across the region today, with storms gradually weakening but lingering overnight into early Tuesday morning. While the severe weather threat remains low, isolated lightning and brief downpours may still create localized hazards, especially during peak travel hours.

Drivers should slow down on wet pavement, increase following distance, and watch for sudden visibility drops during heavier showers. Ponding water may develop in low-lying areas after repeated rainfall.

Conditions begin improving after sunrise Tuesday as rain coverage decreases. Additional updates are expected later today if storm intensity or coverage increases across the South Plains.
