Washington, DC – Temperatures will drop to near or below freezing overnight, putting early morning travel and outdoor infrastructure at risk across the DC metro region through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, a strong cold front will bring frost and freeze conditions late Monday night into early Tuesday, especially in inland areas where the growing season has begun. Lows are expected to fall into the upper 20s to low 30s across much of Maryland, northern Virginia, and parts of West Virginia.

Cities including Washington, Baltimore, Frederick, and Harrisonburg could see temperatures between 28 and 32 degrees before sunrise Tuesday. Rural and valley locations may dip even lower, increasing the risk of damage to sensitive vegetation and exposed outdoor plumbing.

Drivers should watch for patchy frost on bridges and elevated roadways during the early commute, particularly along I-95, I-66, and I-70 corridors. Residents are urged to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and protect outdoor pipes where possible.

A warming trend begins by Wednesday, with highs climbing into the 70s and 80s by late week. However, another round of unsettled weather may return by Friday, and additional alerts could be issued as conditions evolve.
