Silver Springs, Nevada – A magnitude 3.3 earthquake struck just east-southeast of Silver Springs at 7:02 a.m. Tuesday, delivering a brief jolt that residents could feel within a roughly 20-mile radius, including parts of Lyon County and areas near Carson City.
According to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory and ANSS Comprehensive Catalog, the quake originated at a depth of 11.5 kilometers, a level that often produces light surface shaking but limits widespread damage. The epicenter was located about 18 kilometers from Silver Springs, with no immediate reports of structural impacts or injuries.
Communities along U.S. Route 50 and nearby rural roads may have noticed short bursts of shaking, especially in low-rise buildings. While quakes of this size rarely cause damage, officials advise residents to check for small hazards like shifted objects or minor cracks.
Nevada sits in an active seismic zone, and small quakes like this can occur without warning. Residents are encouraged to secure heavy furniture and review earthquake safety plans, especially in older structures.
Seismic monitoring will continue through the day, and additional minor aftershocks cannot be ruled out.
