BOURBONNAIS, IL – Kankakee River State Park has announced its updated equestrian trail schedule for the summer. From April 1 to mid-May, the park’s equestrian trail is open daily from 1:00 pm until sunset. After May 11th, the trail will resume sunrise to sunset hours for the summer.
The park officials have requested visitors to enjoy the trail rides while being safe. Horseback riding is permitted only on designated trails, and groups of 25 or more must obtain prior permission to use the trail by filling out a form.
Visitors are advised to be aware that the area is a multiple-use area, and various hunting programs are in this area or nearby. Therefore, alcohol is not permitted in Kankakee River State Park, and visitors should stay on designated trails to avoid any hazards.
The park officials have also informed visitors that water at Area 4 is for horses only and that proof of Coggins test is required. Furthermore, visitors are advised that the trailhead/hunter parking area has one pit toilet and water only for horses.
