Kankakee, IL – Kankakee’s Fire Department will host their Community Safety Day this weekend. The program is called Passport to Safety. Although the event is geared toward children, all are encouraged to attend.
Kankakee, IL – The Kankakee Police Department has scheduled police academies for residents. The academies provide an opportunity for residents to build relationships with officers, learn the functions of the department and gain an understanding of local police work in their community. The Citizens Police Academies consists of classes that will last 8 weeks, meeting once a week.
The Lifelong Learning Institute offers affordable, high-quality, non-credit classes that take place in an environment that fosters participation. Some classes meet for one day on a specialized topic, others delve deeper over several sessions.
The Kankakee Jaycees will be on hand at the Kankakee Farmers Market from 8 am to noon on September 28th and again on October 5th and 12th raffling off two chances to grab a ride in the time machine!

The program is called “Fast Path,” and it simplifies college planning by having all courses, dates and times prearranged and guaranteed. Fast Path students complete two classes at a time, meet two days a week, and move on to new classes every eight weeks. They will earn an Associate in Arts transfer degree in two years. Some coursework is online in the program, and in-person classes are at the KCC Harold and Jean Miner South Extension Center, 1488 E. Walnut St. in Watseka.
