Kankakee Planning Commission Holds Public Hearing on Zoning for Cannabis Facilities

Kankakee, IL – The City of Kankakee’s Planning Commission held a public meeting Monday night on a zoning ordinance amendment to provide regulations for adult-use cannabis facilities. Effective January 1, 2020, cannabis will be legalized in the state of Illinois. Cities have the option to create their own regulations or opt-out completely. Mayor Wells-Armstrong spoke on what it could bring to the community, noting that there is already a legal cannabis growing facility in the City of Kankakee.

Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Donates Kits to the Kankakee Fire Department in awareness effort

“This is the second year we received a grant from First Alert for the public education campaign regarding the Illinois new 10 Year Smoke Detector Law. This year we have focused more on communities in the northeast portion of the state. Kankakee was chosen based on its population and geographic location. We are thrilled to have the enthusiasm of both the Mayor’s office, as well as, the Kankakee Fire Department behind our efforts,” said Margaret Vaughn, Government Affairs Director for the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance.

City Council Approves Honorary Street Designation for “Craig Blake Way”

Kankakee, IL – Mayor Wells-Armstrong and city council approved the resolution of honorary street designation for the 500 block of South Wildwood Avenue as “Craig Blake Way.” Craig Blake passed away in April of 2019, but his long-lasting impact stretches far in the community.

Economic Development Director Frank Koehler Retires
