BRAIDWOOD – A man who’s been charged with violating the sex offender registry is now facing felony charges after approaching a 15-year-old girl Thursday afternoon.
According to Braidwood Police, a man allegedly approached a 15-year-old girl Thursday morning around 7:50 am on the 300 block of East Main Street while she was walking to school. The man was driving a grey vehicle and attempted to get her inside at the time. The incident wasn’t reported until hours later.
Following the report, Braidwood Police later identified the man as 42-year-old Anthony Michael Schargorodsky Jr. of Braidwood, a registered sex offender, who was later charged by the Will County States Attorney’s Office for attempted Child Abduction, a Class 2 Felony, along with criminal damage to property, criminal trespassing, residential burglary, and fleeing police.
Schargorodsky is now being held on a bond set of over one-million dollars at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
“This incident was reported over 7 hours after it happened. Parents, please talk to your children to report this type of incident immediately.” Braidwood Police advised in a statement Saturday morning.
Braidwood Police arrested Schargorodsky in December last year after finding he stayed in a Sun Motel for nearly a week and failed to register as a sex offender. In 2008, Schargorodsky was sentenced to nine years in prison on a previous sexual assault charge.
