CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Brace yourselves, Champaign County commuters! A significant traffic shakeup is on the horizon as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has just dropped the bombshell: a crucial section of I-57 and I-74 is slated for closure starting this evening, and it’s going to be a long-haul – two years, to be exact.

The move is part of the expansive Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan, IDOT officials have unveiled plans to overhaul the interchange connecting the westbound lanes of I-74 to the northbound lanes of I-57. The crux of the project centers around replacing the existing ramps with brand-new ones, aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and overall travel experience for the countless motorists navigating the roadway.
