CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Officials issued multiple court citations for alcohol violations Sunday morning after police officers responded to a large gathering near the intersection of Oak and Chalmers streets.

According to University of Illinois police reports, around 300 people had gathered in the area to witness furniture being burned in a large fire, prompting the police to intervene.

The Champaign Fire Department arrived shortly afterward and quickly put out the flames, but citations were issued for violations related to alcohol.

No word on what caused residents to rage against their defenseless fixtures.
