Unveiled: University of Illinois Police Identify Juvenile as Anonymous User behind threatening post

CHAMPAIGN, IL – University of Illinois Police have identified an anonymous user who made a threatening comment on social media regarding an upcoming event at the State Farm Center. 

The comment, reported by a U. of I. employee on Monday, sparked an investigation by the university police. The event, scheduled to take place at 1800 S. First St., Champaign, had raised concerns after the threatening comment was discovered. 

According to University Police, investigators were able to trace the comment back to an individual who is under 18 years old. The person behind the comment came forward on Wednesday, telling police that it was ‘meant as a joke.’

No charges have been announced in the case.
