Fire Breaks Out in Vacant Building in Kankakee: Damage Estimates at $30-40k

KANKAKEE, IL – A vacant building in the 500 block of Moore Street in Kankakee caught fire on Thursday afternoon around 2:30 pm, prompting a swift response from local firefighters. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the boarded-up home.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as the firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the blaze. However, the fire resulted in significant damage, with early estimates ranging from $30,000 to $40,000.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
