Iroquois County Health Department officials announced late Saturday a second person has died of COVID-19 inside of the County.

There have now been 93 cases to date, of which 25 have recovered. Six area residents are currently hospitalized.

The new death report comes less than a day after the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 33 residents had been infected with the pandemic at Ascension Presence Merkle-Knipprath Countryside Nursing Home in Clifton.

At least one resident has died at that facility. Beaverville, whose population is just over 300, began reporting in with zip code cases now at six.

Here’s how cases break down via zip code across Iroquois County:

  • 39 cases (Clifton)
  • 9 cases  (Onarga)
  • 6 cases (Beaverville)
