NEWTON COUNTY  – Law enforcement agencies in Newton County have responded to several drug overdose calls in the area over the past few days, resulting in four deaths in the immediate area. The cases are under active investigation, and law enforcement officials cannot speculate if the drugs were “laced” with anything.

While there are differing views on addiction, law enforcement officials acknowledge that those who have lost their lives to drugs were someone’s son, daughter, brother, sister, or parent. “Our hearts go out to the families who have suffered a loss.” Newton County Sheriff’s Police said in a statement Friday.

According to the authorities, there is a “bad batch” of fentanyl that has made its way to the area, leading to these recent incidents. They urge anyone struggling with addiction to seek help immediately and ask anyone with information about these overdose deaths to contact 9-1-1.

It is important to remember that addiction can happen to anyone, and we should all offer our support to those who are dealing with it in their families.
