ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the detonation of large commercial grade fireworks in a residential neighborhood Saturday night.

Officers discovered a cache of fireworks with launch tubes on the public street. The DuPage County Sheriff Bomb Squad was called in to safely remove the explosives. Two adults have been charged with violating the Illinois Pyrotechnic Use Act. If convicted, they could face fines up to $2,500 per offense.

The Elmhurst Police Department reminds residents that the use of large fireworks in residential areas is dangerous and illegal in Illinois.
