NEWTON COUNTY – A field fire hit Newton County shortly after the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a warning for the area.  Newton County Sheriff’s Police reported Monday afternoon several area Fire Departments had responded to a field fire in the Morocco/Lake Village area at CR 600W near 400N.  Fire Departments were on the scene by 1:30 pm Monday.

Sheriff’s Police diverted traffic during the incident.

The National Weather Service warned area residents early Monday conditions are once again ripe for wildfires in Northeastern Illinois and Northwestern Indiana. Winds are expected to reach 30-50 mph this week with temperatures nearly 70 by the weekend.
