Illinois eclipses 20k deaths in pandemic, 2 million doses of vaccine delivered

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) surpassed a grim milestone Monday, reporting over 20,000 deaths now in the pandemic.

IDPH announced 41 newly confirmed pandemic deaths on President’s Day, for a total of 20,002 deaths.

Another milestone reported Monday included the news that over 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been delivered across the state. Those doses do not include some 445k COVID-19 vaccines delivered through the Pharmacy Partnership Program designed to vaccine long-term care facilities across the United States, bringing statewide totals to over 2.4 million.

Sunday, nearly 40,000 vaccines were administered across the state, with a rolling average of delivery now over 66k doses daily. 

There have now been over 1.16 million cases of COVID-19 reported to date in Illinois.
