PEORIA – Local members of the National Guard assigned to support the 59th Presidential Inauguration have returned home to Illinois Tuesday.

The National Guard members, Military police with the Springfield-based 233rd Military Police Company, were part of 26,000 U.S. National Guardsmen brought in from across the country to aid in securing the site following the storming of the U.S. Capitol January 6th.

Few incidents were reported during the deployment but included multiple people attempting to enter restricted areas with weapons and forged credentials, with one woman claiming to be a member of President Biden’s cabinet.
