CHICAGO – Beginning Friday, shoppers will save 5% off clothes and school supplies thanks to a special sales tax holiday that goes into effect.

The savings is part of the $46.5 billion dollar state budget that went in to effect July 1, meaning shoppers will only pay 1.25% tax on items during the holiday.

To apply, clothing or shoes must be less than $125 per item to qualify for the tax holiday program, designed to help families and students going back to school.
