RENSSELAER, Ind. – A routine evening on County Rd. 1000 W. took a startling turn on September 23, when a cow from Steinke Farms, LLC found itself in the path of two passenger vehicles.

According to Jasper County Sheriff’s reports, Breeanne Wilhite, 37, flashed her headlights in a desperate bid to warn the southbound driver, 20-year-old Martin Boget, of the imminent bovine blockade. But her efforts were in vain.

Boget’s Chevrolet Tahoe struck the cow, leading to a subsequent crash with Wilhite’s Chevrolet Suburban.

Multiple injuries resulted from the incident, with two requiring aerial medical evacuation. The investigation continues, and the ill-fated cow was confirmed deceased.
