Kankakee Health reports another COVID-19 death, now 168 succumb to pandemic

KANKAKEE – The Kankakee County Health Department (KCHD) reported an additional death from COVID-19 on Tuesday, marking the 168th resident to lose their battle with the pandemic.

Since the start of 2021, there have been 14 residents locally who have lost their battle with COVID-19. Nearly 1,000 cases have been reported locally since the start of the year.  

Since January 4th, 941 cases have registered with KCHD, with 11,846 total reported during the pandemic since March 2020. Of those, 10,441 are labeled recovered by KCHD with 1,237 considered active cases.  

As of Tuesday evening, Region 7 had remained under the 8.0% warning mark set by the Illinois Department of Public Health for over a week. The region was at 7.4% Tuesday afternoon and has remained unchanged since Friday, January 22nd.
