KANKAKEE – Over 3,600 residents of the county received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Monday, April 19th.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, Kankakee County set a single-day record Monday of 3,664 vaccines administered.  It’s near twice the previous single-day dose record set on March 9th.

The previous record was 1,866 doses adminstered.

There are now 21,206 fully vaccinated residents in Kankakee, accounting for less than 20% of the total population. Of those fully vaccinated locally, 79.3% (16,809) were listed as Caucasian and nearly 58% (12,233) listed female.

Beginning today and running through Thursday, the Illinois National Guard has set up a mass vaccination event at Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene. It comes as active cases in Kankakee eclipsed 1,000 for the first time since January 27th Tuesday.

Neighboring Grundy County along with Region 2 fell back on the COVID-19 warning list after the county’s seven-day positivity went up to 6.7% last week.
