KANKAKEE – The Kankakee County Renewed Opportunity program (KCRO) is preparing to host its inaugural Celebration Fundraiser Banquet on Thursday, September 21st.
The event will take place at the Knights of Columbus, 187 S. Indiana in Kankakee, and promises to be an evening of philanthropy at its finest.
KCRO has been a beacon of hope in our community, dedicated to helping individuals reintegrate into society after their time in correctional and detention facilities. Their mission revolves around reducing cyclical crime rates, offering a lifeline to those in need of a second chance. A Special Service Award will be presented to former Sheriff Tim Bukowski, the visionary behind KCRO, who established the organization’s foundation in 2005.
Behind the staggering statistics lie countless stories of resilience. Every year, over 600,000 individuals rejoin society after prison, with another 11.4 million cycling through local jails. Shockingly, nearly a quarter of Americans have encountered the criminal justice system, often for minor, non-violent offenses.
KCRO is committed to dismantling the barriers that returning citizens face. They offer classes, job training, housing assistance, mentoring, and more. Their work empowers individuals to overcome the challenges of reentry, breaking the cycle of incarceration.
