CHICAGO – Residents statewide are preparing to hide smiles and mask up as they head out into the start of the week.

That’s because today is the first day of a reinstated mask mandate announced by Governor JB Pritzker last Thursday.

A huge reason behind the new measures is due to the case and hospitalization jumps in some parts of Illinois.

No date has been set when the mandate will be lifted.

Face masks will not be required outdoors but are encouraged in large, outdoor settings were the possibility of close contact is high.
