The Illinois Municipal League (IML) has appointed Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong to the Illinois Municipal League Resolutions Committee. The IML board of directors approved Mayor Wells-Armstrong’s appointment on July 20, 2019.

Formed in 1913, the Illinois Municipal League represents municipalities in legislative matters before the federal government. Their mission is to help educate, advocate and empower local leaders to enhance their communities, as well as, unite municipal governments to create one strong voice.

“We are excited to have Mayor Wells-Armstrong provide a strong voice for Kankakee and all 1,298 municipalities throughout Illinois with her work on the IML Resolutions Committee. We look forward to achieving the goals and principles set by the resolutions our members will consider in September, all of which are focused on protecting shared revenues and maintaining local authority on critical issues,” said IML Executive director Brad Cole.

The resolution committee will consider proposed resolutions, recommend the resolutions to the board of directors who will make a recommendation to full membership. Full membership will then collect a final vote on the resolutions at the annual Illinois Municipal League conference.

“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to raise the voice of the City of Kankakee and other communities as the Resolution Committee works to drive public policy initiatives that will protect resources and strengthen local control,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

Mayor Wells-Armstrong is set to join the committee to review proposed resolutions and participate in upcoming meetings. The committee will meet three times between now and September before the Illinois Municipal League conference next month. The first meeting is scheduled for August 7, 2019.
